Survey finds overwhelming bipartisan support for Prop 45, with majorities across every political party, region, ethnicity and income level
Sacramento, CA — A new statewide poll from the nonpartisan Public Policy Institute of California (PPIC) finds 73% of likely voters overwhelmingly support Proposition 45— a commanding margin that cuts across party lines, every region of the state, ethnicity and income levels.
“The message from California voters is unmistakable: the status quo isn’t working, and we’re all paying the price,” said CalChamber President & CEO Jennifer Barrera. “When it takes years longer than necessary to build affordable housing, clean water infrastructure, hospitals, and clean energy projects, the costs are passed along to families already struggling with California’s high cost of living. Prop 45 is about making California more affordable by cutting unnecessary delays to deliver the essential projects our communities need faster and more affordably.”
The survey, conducted June 29–July 6, 2026 among 1,003 likely voters, found support for the measure cutting across the political spectrum, including 80% of Democrats, 73% of Independents, and 61% of Republicans. Majorities also backed the measure in every region of California, including Los Angeles (79%), Orange County / San Diego (76%), the Bay Area (74%), the Central Valley (69%) and the Inland Empire (60%).
The poll also found especially strong support among Californians most affected by the state’s affordability crisis, with 82% of renters and 82% of voters earning less than $40,000 annually supporting the measure.
By cutting project review and permitting timelines by 2-10+ years, Prop 45 will reduce the unnecessary delays that drive up the cost of housing, water, energy, transportation, and other essential infrastructure—helping make California more affordable for families and taxpayers.
